The Story Behind the Ritual: New Year's Resolutions

Welcome to 2026...

Humans have always had a long and complicated relationship with the passing of time. So, to understand our relationship with New Year, we need to look at our past (Julius Ceasar would approve).

...So, what now?

Over recent years we’ve felt a slow return to the origins of new year rituals: embracing the seasons, following nature's cues, and celebrating renewal both physically and psychologically.

This includes a gentler approach to resolution making - not overburdening ourselves with unforgiving and unattainable goals but seeking a deeper understanding of ourselves through introspection and self-care. Rather than those all too familiar promises to lose x amount of weight or go to the gym 6 days a week, more people are recognising the benefits of healthy nutrition, quality sleep, mental fulfilment, and connecting with nature. More and more, we are understanding our role within nature’s life cycle and, as a society, we are placing a greater emphasis on living within that cycle.

Some of the most popular resolutions last year included:

  • Learn a new skill or hobby
  • Be more mindful
  • Find time to journal and read
  • Be more organised
  • Have a healthier, more transparent relationship with personal finances
  • Reduce stress
  • Get out in nature
  • Travel more
  • Learn a new language

So this year, be a little kinder to yourself, enjoy the rest of that Christmas cake (it'll only go off if you don't), and set yourself up to succeed with goals that will make you happy, fulfilled and healthy in the long run.

(Not to be too obvious but... we've probably got a journal that will help with that...)

Wishing you all a year of adventure and happiness,

Caitlin, Christy & Kenna.
